Marine and Freshwater Biology

Attention Incoming Freshman!

Marine Immersion

This course is designed for incoming freshmen – especially, but not exclusively, for Biology, Zoology, and related majors. The class is capped at 20, so sign up soon if you’re interested. It will be taught by a team of UNH professors with expertise across a wide range of marine sciences, from invasive species to marine policy.

In addition to marine sciences, you’ll get an introduction to undergraduate life and research at UNH, and practice some of the skills (from writing to time management to understanding how the university is organized) that will help you make the most of your college experience. Current UNH students and recent graduates will discuss their own research and experience, and answer your questions about what life here is really like.

The Marine & Freshwater Biology Option is intended to provide broad-based training in the aquatic biological sciences for students who prefer to take additional courses in the area of Marine and Freshwater Biology. Students interested in aquaculture and fisheries may also choose this Option by taking appropriate courses in consultation with their advisor. The Options in Ecology, Evolution and Behavior (EEB), and Molecular, Cellular and Developmental Biology (MCDB) provide training in these specialty areas. General Biology Option allows you to select courses from a broader list of offerings in the various departments. B.S. degree recipients in any of the four Biology options or in any of the five biological science departments will be qualified to pursue advanced degrees in the biological sciences, professional degrees in the health-related professions, secondary school teaching certification, or employment in a wide variety of public and private sector jobs requiring biology training.
