Molecular, Cellular and Developmental Biology

The Molecular, Cellular & Developmental Biology Option (MCDB) is intended to provide an opportunity for broad training in molecular, cellular and developmental biology, and biotechnology area for students who would like to achieve limited specialization in this field of biology. Students interested in the interdisciplinary fields of genetics, genomics and bioinformatics may also choose this Option by taking appropriate courses in consultation with the advisor. This is in addition to broad-based training in the basic areas of biology and related physical sciences covered in the Core Curriculum. The Options in Ecology, Evolution and Behavior (EEB), and Marine and Freshwater Biology (MFB) provide additional training in the respective specialty areas. General Biology (GB) Option allows you to select courses from a broader list of offerings in the various departments. B.S. degree recipients in any of the four Biology Options or in any of the five biological science departments will be qualified to pursue advanced degrees in the biological sciences, professional degrees in the health-related professions, secondary school teaching certification, or employment in a wide variety of public and private sector jobs requiring biology training.
